Jamaican Poetry : Tempting Apple by Denise N. Fyffe

Tempting Apple

I’ll sit in a tree

And watch you looking at me
surely tempted by this apple you see
Out of your reach, I will tempt thee
but I am assured, you do not have the will to reach for me;

I’ll change colours, to more brilliant shades
turn your eyes, while you wait in the summer shade
I’ll emit a scent, that will take your breath
I’ll tempt you for better, I’ll tempt you for less;

But when you least expect, another will walk over
climb this tree and swing limb from limb
until I am in his grasp and I am the world to him.
