2016 Rio Olympics: JAAA vs. Jason ‘Dadz’ Morgan

I am wary of the strategic maneuverings of Mr. Morgan. Ordinarily, if this was a case of any member of any company or body, this would be viewed entirely different. Rather than make a direct appeal to the JAAA, the volcanic chess play was taken to the airways and social media. Certainly, this has brought the JOA and the JAAA members, executive and selection committee into disrepute. It has also brought Jason Morgan into disrepute.

There has been a firestorm of controversy following the Jamaica Senior Trials, held in Kingston Jamaica, this month. Taking the center stage is the non-selection of Jamaican discus thrower, Jason Morgan, by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

JAAA vs. Jason ‘Dadz’ Morgan

Many have made it their duty to express their opinion and demands of how the situation must be rectified. Namely, adding Jason Morgan to the Jamaican Track and Field Team. Many have also not analysed the matter objectively – taking the rules and historical data into consideration – and come off sounding like a ‘wagonist’.

Usain Bolt withdrew from the JAAA Supreme Ventures National Senior Trials, last evening and did not compete in the men’s 100m. Bolt, Blake, Ashmeade and Bailey Cole all looked comfortable in the earlier rounds. However, this was the finals and everyone would be required to run their heart out, if they hoped to qualify. Watch: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Dominated by Elaine Thompson in Women’s 100m Finals #JaSeniorTrials

The Jamaican women stormed the finish line, but only one would be crowned the winner. If this is any indication, the standard for women’s sprinting just soared to new heights. Thompson had at least half a metre lead over, these calibre women and managed to equal the national record of 10.70s.

THE ISLAND JOURNAL

With hushed silence, seats emptied as everyone rose in anticipation; little did we know that the starters gun would signal the dawn of a new era, in women’s sprinting in Jamaica. The 100 metre ladies were off and in 10 seconds, everyone watched as a new 100 metre champion crossed the finish line in a dominant fashion.

Elaine Thompson is now the national champion of the 100m women race, in Kingston Jamaica. The stadium crowd is beside themselves and everyone is in awe of the new phenom, who slayed a field, which included Pryce and VCB. Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce was second, Christina Williams finished third and crowd favorite, Veronica Campbell Brown had to settle for fourth.

One has to wonder, after watching the interview and hearing the many praises uttered unto God, did the young man find Jesus? Was he humbled over the last couple years with his injury? Are his ‘Beast’ days over and are we seeing the ‘saved’ version of Yohan?

The bible did say, ‘Pride cometh before a fall.’
